‘The Bicycleur’ is a nod to the Flâneur - a person who drifts around the city, letting the surroundings and encounters guide their journey. How would those routes translate to the perspective of a bicycle?
The Bicycleur explores the intertwined relationship between human and bicycle, transcending functionality to create a mode of movement, interaction and companionship. The bicycle evolves from a tool into a collaborator, influencing behaviour and thought with shared agency between rider and machine. As the bicycle affects the rider, how does the rider affect the bicycle? Questioning the limitations of cycling’s phenomenology confined to roads and paths, The Bicycleur proposes an abstract apparatus to transpose the experience into studio spaces, offices, and classrooms - a displacement that transforms perception. &#38;nbsp;


A ‘Cycleur’, akin to the walking Flâneur, allows for subversive exploration and creates new forms of desire lines, navigating social structures and transforming our engagement with environments. The shape of The Bicycleur evokes a dog chasing its own tail, a loose knot, or a Möbius strip. Having navigated these concepts, The Bicycleur finds itself in a gallery, twisted and suspended by bungee cords, jiggling its way out of a knot. 

The sculpture is currently tangled up in the cycling section of the Paul Smith store, Coal Drops Yard.&#38;nbsp;

Cycling Writing

A writing experiment/performance: riding a bicycle in a fixed position while typing my observations and contemplations, projecting the text behind me, overlaid on a video.

As part of my research on cycling, movement, and the static nature of computer work, I aimed to explore a concept as a method. I'm interested in breaking down the boundaries between activities that are typically separated between work and leisure. What constitutes 'work' when you're on the move? How would writing change if it were done while cycling simultaneously? I attempted to access a part of tacit knowledge from cycling and weave it into a writing exercise. Would I write more openly and honestly? Might my intrusive thoughts spill out? My writing changed because I was being observed.

2500 Bricksis a film documentation of a movement performance that was played out and documented on the construction site of Wonderfruit Festival in Pattaya, Thailand in December 2019. The performative method applied was task making, carefully choreographed around the making of 2500 sun dried bricks that constructed an undulating paved pathway through the festival grounds. The performance explored how the chosen material became a ‘demanding prop’ that changed the combined ensemble of performers/brick makers into a coherent collective. The festival audience witnessed how the path moved forward each day, shaping the contour of the landscape – an obvious stage where passers-by from the festival would gather to observe the path progress. By cultivating the positions of performers/brick makers with mutual respect and curiosity the roles increasingly overlapped as our costumes became increasingly stained. The festival guests witnessed the emerging ensemble. I did the performance in parallel with the work taking place at the festival in collaboration with two brick masters A and Ga, two sculpturers Teeraporn Khuankhwaisap and Pongsakorn Srimuang and my photographer Laurence Moss. The project was in collaboration Wonderfruit Festival and Ab Rogers Design.</description>

‘The art-film is shot and edited in time lapse format - features a dance performance on the building site for the new Maggie’s Centre by Ab Rogers Design at The Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton. In the film a dancer, Elin Eyborg, walks through the site, vibrating from the activities of the busy construction workers. Apparently the dancer moves in a familiar pace, contrary to the people around her that perform their tasks with a strange accelerated pulse.’ - Elin Eyborg
